Q: Why are the prices of the special diets higher? Are they better than the regular diet?
We strongly recommend choosing a special formula only when your pet needs a low phosphorus, low fat or low protein diet due to the health issues. This is because the nutrition of the normal diet, such as protein or phosphorus, is higher than the special formula. At the same time, healthy dogs have a stronger absorption and digestive system, so high protein will not be a burden on the kidneys while will only help them grow better, instead.
Therefore, for dogs without special needs, the special diets are not better than the normal diets. As far as the amount of meat is concerned, the ratio of the meat portion will be relatively less due to the needs of low protein or low fat content from special diets .
Q: Is phosphorus harmful? Why is it labeled as low phosphorus?
Phosphorus is one of the minerals that both humans and dogs need to absorb on a daily basis, and the right amount of phosphorus can bring about healthy bone and blood vessel growth. However, high phosphorus will become dangerous to dogs with CKD as only the healthy kidneies can sucessfully process the phosphorus conversion effortlessly, so if the kidneys cannot convert phosphorus properly, it can lead to health risks.
Q: How does the low phosphorus formula taste? Is it different from the normal diets?
With the low phosphorus formula, most of the original broth / soup from the cooked meat and vegatables are removed. We, then, replenish the water and mix it with organic coconut oil. Therefore, the taste of the speicla diets is little bit lighter than the normal menus as we compared and tried all different meals by our own.
Q: How to maintain a low phosphorus diet?
Most of the phosphorus in any food is dissolved in the soup during cooking, so if you isolate as much of the soup as possible during cooking, you will be able to maintain a relatively low phosphorus diet. After isolating the soup for the first time, we mix in organic coconut oil with clean water to ensure that the coconut oil is completely mixed with all the other ingredients.
